Job Summary

Hanover Bank is looking for a full-time Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller will be integral to the operation, administration, and daily operations of the Finance Division, including general ledger maintenance, reporting, communications, and organization. The Assistant Controller will assist with month-end and year-end financial closing activities, maintenance of the general ledger, board and regulatory reporting, corporate tax matters, and will oversee and manage Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Prepaids/accruals, reconciliations, and other tasks as assigned. The Assistant Controller will work cross-departmentally on projects relating to business initiatives.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises the development and implementation of financial information and control systems, including the GL subsystems
  • Assist the Controller with the daily operations of the Finance Department
  • Daily balancing, including the reconciliation of the loan and deposit trial balance, non-posts, and subledger balancing
  • Prepare and distribute the daily financial package to Executives
  • Assists the Controller with the month-end and year-end closing process
  • Maintains the Company’s Fixed Assets
  • Responsible for various month-end reconciliations
  • Assists with internal and external audits
  • Manages and oversees Accounts Payable, including end-of-year 1099 processing
  • Oversee Payroll funding and reconciliations
  • Prepare and submit the Corporate Rent Tax
  • Prepare and submit the quarterly sales tax return
  • Prepare the Summary of Deposits
  • Oversees the preparation and reviews the Call Report & Y-9
  • Assists the Controller with corporate tax matters
  • Assists the Controller with the preparation of the Board Package
  • Responsible for the integration of the Core system with the General Ledger
  • Assists the Controller with the oversight of the GL software. Reviews and tests new releases before they are moved into production.
  • Maintains the Company’s general ledger, including creating new GLs, inactivating GLs, updating canned GL reports for maintenance changes, and annual review of the company’s chart of accounts
  • Assists the Controller with vendor management
  • Responsible for BCP Testing
  • Responsible for the data feeds from the GL into the budgeting and forecasting software
  • Represent the finance department in bank-wide projects and initiatives
  • Support the development and implementation of department policies and procedures
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to direct reports
  • Ensure compliance with all Bank policies and procedures and applicable industry regulations

Education and Experience

  • Understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred, but not required
  • 5-7 years of public accounting experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in Banking is preferred

Salary: $109,000.00 - $133,000.00; placement within this range will vary based on experience and skill level.
