Job DescriptionReports To: Executive Director, Malteser International Americas Position Type: Full-time, Hybrid (Based at NYC Regional HQ Office) Deadline: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews scheduled, on a rolling basis.
Summary:
The Director of Programs will be charged with leading and strategically designing and developing humanitarian relief programs in the Americas, overseeing the program team, and working closely with program operations and development/fundraising teams. Malteser International Americas (MI) is looking for an experienced professional with international program and leadership experience to support further development of its Americas programs currently in Colombia, Haiti, Venezuela, Peru and Mexico and with an emphasis on obtaining government, corporate and foundation grants. Duties and Responsibilities: Portfolio Management and Oversight • Overall oversight, quality assurance, and strategic development of the Americas portfolio• Ensure effective management of awards within the assigned portfolio • Provide input to the strategic and operational plans for these awards • Oversight and monitoring of regional budgets and ensuring proper use of funds • Identify portfolio issues and support team members to develop plans for course correction, and/or escalation, when necessary • Oversee the start-up, implementation, and close-out of the portfolio of assigned awards • Closely collaborate with the operations team supporting in-country office management of awards as well as compliance and communication with donors • Lead on the full life cycle of programs/funds for one assigned response, ensuring adherence to donor rules and regulations and supporting country offices to meet key deliverables. • Travel to MI country offices to conduct reviews, provide operations support, and build capacity on donor requirements • Ensure effective risk management in regional portfolio in close collaboration with global advisors on Safety and Security, Compliance, and Integrity Management• Representation of Malteser International Americas externally with donors, networks, and organizations in the US and within regions.• Partner in the acquisition of public and private funding to support the programs. Management Support • Manage and develop assigned program and program operations managers in HQ and program coordinators at country offices• For direct reports, oversee orientation, development of individual and teamwork plans, performance evaluations • Serve as backstop and support for team members in the implementation of portfolio projects • Foster a collegial environment that promotes knowledge sharing, respectful engagement, and collaboration• Represent MI Americas programs towards US and regional donors, foundations, major donors, and at fundraising events Skills and Experience• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, masters preferred in related area, plus at least 7+ years of relevant humanitarian experience • Demonstrated headquarters level leadership with strong budget and employee management capabilities and field-level experience in chronic or acute humanitarian crises • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with and raising funds from in-country donors; in particular excellent knowledge of the US funding landscape, including foundations with a successful track record in acquiring grants with skill in crafting proposals.• Proven success working across the full cycle of project/award management and implementation • Demonstrated ability to manage a team, with interest and ability to recruit, support, retain and develop staff • Proven analytical, organizational, communication, and management skills; must have attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and ability to make independent decisions. • Ability to lead portfolio review and analysis to ensure oversight and management of risk for awards in portfolio • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and in a culturally sensitive manner with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English and Spanish; French would be an asset • High level of identification with the mission and vision of Malteser International Americas • Ability to travel as required to support humanitarian responses, country office support, and external representation We Offer: · A responsible and exciting job in a committed, international working environment.· Fast pace, extensive decision-making ability, innovation, and highly dynamic and motivated teams.· Part of a network of several Order of Malta professional and voluntary organizations across the world, including a diplomatic network and representation at the UN.· Opportunity of work missions to visit programs and projects in country locations.· Competitive benefits package including health plans, retirement plan, holidays and paid time off· Salary range is $110,000 – $130,000 annually, depending on experience.
