Robert Half is partnering with a mission-driven and rapidly growing non-profit organization based in the Bronx looking to bring on a dynamic Controller to lead the accounting function, help drive financial strategy, and support our continued growth.. The organization is committed to making a meaningful impact in our community and has an expanding annual budget that has increased programming year over year.


Position Summary:

The Controller will play a key leadership role within the Finance Department, overseeing all accounting operations and managing a dedicated team of accounting professionals. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will ensure the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and will be a strategic partner in budgeting, forecasting, and process improvement initiatives.


This is a fully in-office position offering a true 9-to-5 schedule with flexible work hours and an excellent quality of life.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, grants accounting, and payroll
  • Supervise and mentor a growing team of accounting staff
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and review financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with the CFO
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard organizational assets
  • Manage annual audit process and liaise with external auditors
  • Assist the CFO with financial modeling, cash flow management, and long-term financial planning
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and city reporting requirements, including those related to non-profit and grant-funded activities
  • Participate in systems upgrades and other strategic initiatives to support organizational growth





Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or Master’s degree a plus
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Non-profit accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and grant compliance
  • Proficiency with MIP and FundEZ accounting software preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with senior leadership
