The Opportunity

We’re expanding and as our business grows and our product range broadens, we’ve found it necessary to make significant investments in our organization. Similarly, we’re investing in our people and are looking for someone who’s personally supportive of our customers and equally driven to deliver exceptional products for our market.

We’re seeking an experienced Technical Designer to transition new products from development into production. Unlike almost all commercial apparel development, both our design office and our factory are here in Brooklyn, and our Tech Designers work hands-on and in great detail with the manufacturing team and the production floor. This is a full-time, in-office position within the design department that reports directly to the Director of Product Development. Excellent opportunities for professional growth and advancement.

Job Responsibilities

The Technical Designer is responsible for:

  • Working with designers, patternmakers and sample makers to fully document styles through the creation of tech packs and associated product deliverables
  • Developing, specifying and troubleshooting construction methods and techniques, and documenting them in technical illustrations
  • Build complete measurement tables with tolerances, considering factors such as sewing and wash shrinkage
  • Specifying all materials used across all sizes and colorways of a given style
  • Documenting orders of operation to be used by sample makers and Production staff
  • Correcting existing design documents via the document change order (DCO) process
  • Reviewing documents of tech design teammates for accuracy and completeness as needed
  • Collaborating in product fittings
  • Continually improving documentation and construction details based on customer and Production feedback

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 4 years minimum established experience in technical design for apparel or soft goods products
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to bring the highest level of accuracy and attention to detail to all design development tasks and documentation
  • Ability to oversee development of complete design packages from concept development through handoff to production
  • Fluency in Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft 365 (especially Excel)
  • Detailed understanding of patternmaking and garment construction

Additional Valuable Skills:

  • Extensive experience with PLM systems
  • Knowledge of textile sourcing, specifying and testing
  • Fluency in Gerber Accumark, for pattern making and/or marker making
  • Experience working directly with the factory floor on manufacturing strategies, workflow improvements, and fabrication troubleshooting
  • Development experience in outdoor apparel or soft goods, or first responder apparel or equipment
