We are currently working on a bid for On - Call Accounting Services for the Town of Oyster Bay and looking for part-time Accountants to join our team if we are awarded the bid! You will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial records for the Town of Oyster Bay.

Responsibilities:

Services to be provided to the Town of Oyster Bay are to include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Ensure the books and records are maintained in accordance with New York State requirements.
2. Assist with the Implementation of New Accounting Standards. Provide Accounting Tools, Advice and Methodologies as required.
3. Approximately 4 - 6 weeks at the end of the Town’s fiscal year ending 12/31/2025 to prepare reconciliations, adjusting journal entries and schedules necessary to close the books for the year.
4. Assist in the preparation of the 2025 Annual Update Document for the Town of Oyster Bay. The Annual Update Document will be filed on the due date prescribed by the New York State Comptroller, (currently 120 days from year-end).
5. Assist in the coordination, filings and reporting requirements for all discretely presented component units as they relate to the preparation of the 2025 Annual Update Document for the Town of Oyster Bay.
6. Preparation of the draft Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and submittal of this ACFR to the Governmental Finance Officers’ Association under their voluntary program to obtain the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
7. Preparation of the draft ACFR related Budget Compliance Report

8. Preparation of the schedules and reconciliations related to the discretely presented component units for their inclusions in the ACFR for the Town of Oyster Bay including debt service fund and capital project fund eliminations.
9. Preparation of the draft “Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards” for inclusion in the Single Audit Report. Reconcile federal grant revenues and expenditure and make necessary accruals.
10. Preparation of the draft “Schedule of State Transportation Assistance Expended” for inclusion in the State Single Audit Report. Reconcile State grant revenues and expenditure and make necessary accruals.
11. Preparation of the draft of the Receiver of Taxes Agency Fund Financial Statements.
12. Preparation of the draft of the Town Clerk Agency Fund Financial Statements.
13. Preparation of the many schedules, reconciliations or analyses necessary for the audit and requested by the Town including but not limited to:
• Schedules of long-term liabilities (landfill closure, judgments and claims, other liabilities)
• Prepare capital assets activity based on detail property records.
14. Perform agreed upon procedures determined necessary to assure reasonable accuracy of accounts receivable, accounts payable and accrued liabilities at year end.
15. Assist in the physical counts of inventories at various Town locations and to adjust the records accordingly.
16. Assist with internal audits and the auditing of claims as needed.
17. Provide on-call assistance, as required, should any special work arise which requires additional time.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in accounting or other related fields
  • Fundamental knowledge of GAAP
  • Experience with current computer accounting programs and reporting tools
  • Detail and deadline-oriented
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Expereience of having worked in the Long Island School District system a big plus
