Job Title: Senior Software Developer
HBITS Task Order: HBITS-07-14227
Agency: New York State Department of Taxation and Finance
Location: Albany, NY (ONSITE for 1st 4 months, then 40% remote allowed)
Duration: 30 months
Rate: Depends on experience
Position Overview: We are seeking a Senior Software Developer for our client who will support the Department of Taxation and Finance’s Tax Modernization program. The selected candidate will serve as a Senior Software Developer leading tax-related application development and maintenance. The project requires strong skills in Java/J2EE, Spring, JSON, JavaScript, JDBC, DB2, XML, and messaging technologies. Candidates should have proven experience with enterprise system analysis, multi-tiered transactional systems, and mentoring technical teams.
Responsibilities:
- Gather requirements and document system specifications to design automated applications that meet business needs.
- Lead programming work for tax-related applications, mentoring team members in technologies such as J2EE, Spring, JSON, JavaScript, and JDBC.
- Provide technical guidance and support throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Create and execute unit test plans, conduct unit testing, and debug code changes.
- Manage the migration of programs, procedures, and other code changes from development to test environments.
- Support staff working with distributed technologies including Java, DB2, XML, and XQuery, ensuring proper training and mentoring.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues or defects quickly based on business priority.
- Participate in meetings with ITS and DTF stakeholders, providing both verbal and written communication to management and team members.
Qualifications:
- 5 years experience with J2EE technologies including JDBC, JSP, and XML.
- 5 years experience developing, building, and testing Java EE applications using modern IDEs such as Eclipse, NetBeans, or IntelliJ.
- 5 years experience using J2EE frameworks such as Spring or Struts and Application Servers such as Tomcat, JBoss, WebSphere, or WebLogic.
- 5 years experience writing SQL statements for relational databases.
- 5 years experience working with JSON data for transmitting, manipulating, and displaying.
- 3 years experience with messaging technologies such as MQ, JMS, or Kafka.
- 5 years experience in system analysis and design of multi-tiered transactional systems.
