JOB SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant will report to the Corporate Controller. The Staff Accountant – SAP plays an integral part in the general accounting, policy implementation and month end processes for our Latham NY Shared Service organization. The position maintains and controls certain General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that include booking of daily transactions, performing analytical work and thorough review of financial records.

The ideal candidate will have firm knowledge of basic accounting principles, attention to detail, and strong initiative to identify opportunities for improvement as well as design and implement approved improvements. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work with a broad range of people with different backgrounds and perspectives, as well as the ability to comfortably work with people in other functions or external to the company (vendors and customers). We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to manage and maintain financial records, ensure compliance with regulations, and provide accurate reporting to support decision-making. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and proficiency in financial software.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts
  • Responsible for calculating domestic inventory in transit values for each entity.
  • Prepare and post journal entries from source documents.
  • Support external audits as needed
  • Maintain and update accounting systems and databases
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Assist with Corporate financials and annual budget
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall financial health of the organization
  • Generate financial analysis and provide recommendations to improve efficiency

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of general accounting experience, preferably in mid to large company.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required.
  • Strong communication skills and be detail oriented with the ability to work independently as well as effectively in a team environment.
  • Able to apply consistent standards while adapting to frequent changes in Company requirements.
  • Be flexible and able to work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, and Word skills are required. Experience with Eclipse or similar ERP is a plus.
  • Dependable, organized, and professional individual who is self-motivated and owns required tasks.
