Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, inquisitive, and experienced Accountant to join our dynamic Finance team. The Accountant will play a crucial role in recording financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting and financial principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced environments. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a passion for accuracy and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Financial Activity
- Manage accounts payable, including vendor, and internal communication.
- Review and record financial transactions, including, but not limited to recurring & prepaid bills, employee expense reimbursements, corporate credit card charges, journal entries, and other payables, disbursements, and credits.
- Prepare and record monthly, quarterly, and annual accruals, including but not limited to accrued PTO, employer 401k contributions, and bonuses.
- Manage fixed and intangible assets. Post depreciation and amortization entries. Collaborate with IT on retirement and disposal of fixed assets, recording appropriate entries in the accounting system.
- Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
- Actively participate in all period-end close activities.
- Communicate internally and externally to investigate and resolve discrepancies related to financial activities.
- Payroll and Benefits:
- Partner with the People & Culture team on semi-monthly payroll processing and reconciliation.
- Partner with the Finance and People & Culture teams on processing quarterly and annual bonus payments.
- Record payroll journal entries in the accounting system.
- Review and approve expense reports. Ensure timely processing of expense reports to align with semi-monthly payroll cycles.
- Reconcile employee benefits and address discrepancies as needed in collaboration with the People & Culture team.
- Maintain accurate records of all payroll transactions.
- Collaborate internally and externally to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll and tax payments.
- Reporting and Auditing:
- Generate monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc financial reports.
- Assist with the preparation and execution of internal and external audits.
- Provide support for financial planning and analysis activities.
- Support and Process Improvement:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial guidance and support.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of financial policies and procedures.
- Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and reporting.
- Assist with internal and external audits as required.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. CPA preferred.
- 7 to 10 years of business experience in Finance and Accounting, preferably in a services business environment.
- Experience with and strong understanding of financial principles, accounting concepts (GAAP), payroll tax regulations, FLSA, and garnishments.
- Advanced Excel skills, such as advanced formulas and functions (e.g. lookup, conditional logic, aggregation, and statistical functions), data analysis and manipulation (e.g. pivot tables and charts, data validation, conditional formatting, what-if tools, power query), presentation and reporting (e.g. advanced charting techniques).
- Proficiency with Microsoft and Google Workspace applications.
- Experience and working knowledge of financial applications and CRM software such as QuickBooks, Salesforce, Netsuite, Anaplan, and Planful.
- Experience and working knowledge of payroll processing systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
