Insero Talent Solutions is recruiting an EHS Manager for a growing manufacturing company in Rochester, NY.
The EHS Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, ISO 14001 standards, and corporate requirements. The role promotes a proactive safety culture, addresses manufacturing-specific hazards such as kiln operations and silica exposure, drives environmental stewardship, and ensures contain improvement in safety and compliance performance across the facility.
Tasks/Competencies and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a visible safety leader on the plant floor, engaging employees and reinforcing a safety-first culture.
- Lead the site's Safety Committee and champion continuous improvement initiatives in EHS performance.
- Partner with supervisors, managers, and HR to integrate safety and environmental considerations into all operations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NYSDEC, and other applicable regulations.
- Maintain permits, records, and documentation for all EHS programs.
- Lead ISO 14001 environmental management system compliance, including audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct hazard assessments, job safety analyses, and regular inspections.
- Oversee silica exposure control programs, including air monitoring, PPE requirements, and medical surveillance.
- Manage waste handling, hazardous material storage, emissions control, and spill prevention programs.
- Develop and deliver EHS onboarding and recurring training, including kiln safety, silica handling, PPE usage, and emergency response.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and occupational illnesses; identify root causes and implement corrective measures.
- Maintain and coordinate emergency response plans for scenarios such as fires, chemical spills, kiln malfunctions, and natural disasters.
- Report EHS performance, incidents, and improvement plans to plant leadership and corporate EHS as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 5+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing or heavy industrial environments; ceramics, glass, or refractory materials preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910), environmental regulations, and ISO 14001 requirements.
- Experience in silica exposure prevention, kiln operations safety, and industrial hazard controls.
- Skilled in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and regulatory inspections.
- Strong communication and training skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset with a focus on risk reduction and compliance.
- Resilient and adaptable, able to manage change in a dynamic production environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.
Preferred Certifications:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor.
