For over fifty years, New York Junior Tennis & Learning (NYJTL) has honored its founder Arthur Ashe’s legacy by celebrating the diversity of children, encouraging them to reach their highest potential through free tennis and academic programs. NYJTL is the largest provider of youth tennis and education programs in the nation, providing services in 100 unique sites across all five boroughs while reaching nearly 90,000 kids. In addition, NYJTL designed, funded (with NYC), built and operates the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning in the South Bronx. All NYJTL community tennis and after school programs are offered at no cost to its participants.
The mission of NYJTL is to develop the character of young people through tennis and education for a lifetime of success on and off the court. It believes life skills gained through tennis, academics, healthy living, and character development are a catalyst for long-term achievement.
Position Summary:
NYJTL is seeking a Full-Time Social Worker to support Bronx afterschool sites through direct student services, staff training, and intern supervision. This fully in-person role includes providing emotional and behavioral support, facilitating SEL groups, coaching staff, and leading trauma-informed and restorative practices. The Social Worker will also supervise Bronx-based social work interns and split time between program sites and the Cary Leeds Center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide short-term emotional and behavioral support to students during afterschool hours
- Conduct staff trainings on trauma-informed care, restorative practices, and SEL strategies·
- Provide coaching and consultation to Site Directors and afterschool staff to strengthen site culture and student supports
- Support and supervise Bronx-based social work interns (observations, feedback, reflective supervision, and task supervision)
- Conduct regular site visits and observations to assess and enhance SEL and trauma-informed practices
- Provide on-site consultation and support during student crises or escalated situations
- Support Site Directors in developing and implementing family engagement strategies
- Develop and share tools, resources, and materials to support trauma-informed and restorative practices across sites
- Facilitate cross-site learning opportunities for interns and staff (trainings, group supervision, learning communities)
- Analyze SEL surveys and contribute to ongoing program evaluation and quality improvement
- Coordinate with school-day staff and caregivers to ensure continuity of student support
- Participate in reflective supervision, team meetings, and cross-site collaboration
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission of NYJTL’s afterschool and mental health programming
Qualifications:
- MSW and LMSW required
- Experience working with children and youth in school-based or afterschool settings·Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, SEL, and restorative practices
- Experience supervising interns or coaching staff
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
- Cultural humility and experience working with diverse communities
- Bilingual in Spanish or another language commonly spoken in NYC schools
- Familiarity with NYC DOE/DOH afterschool programming
Preferred:
- Bilingual (Spanish preferred)

- SIFI certification (or pending upon hiring)

Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: $55k - 60k
Schedule: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM Monday-Friday
Work Location: In-Person (reporting to Bronx afterschool sites and Cary Leeds Center)
