Job Title: Director of Administration (with Strong Financial Oversight)

Location: Geneva, NY – Cayuga Nation Administrative Office

Travel: 10–25% to Nation locations in Union Springs, Seneca Falls, and surrounding areas

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Position Overview

The Cayuga Nation is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Administration to provide executive leadership across the Nation’s core administrative and financial functions. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this position serves as the Nation’s senior financial authority while overseeing multiple key departments including Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Communications, and Facilities & Maintenance.

This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for ensuring sound fiscal management, organizational efficiency, compliance, and alignment with the Nation’s goals and values. The ideal candidate will be a proven financial and operational leader with deep experience in governmental, tribal, or complex nonprofit management.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Oversight

  • Serve as the senior financial officer for the Nation, directing all accounting, budgeting, auditing, and financial reporting functions.
  • Supervise the Accounting Manager and Finance staff to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in all financial operations.
  • Lead annual and long-range budgeting, cash flow management, fund accounting, and audit preparation.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and all relevant tribal, federal, and state financial regulations.
  • Manage banking, audit, and financial consulting relationships.

Administrative & Departmental Leadership

  • Provide executive oversight for Finance, HR, IT, Communications, and Facilities & Maintenance.
  • Promote interdepartmental coordination, policy consistency, and operational excellence.
  • Support executive decision-making with accurate financial and operational analysis.
  • Lead strategic capital planning, internal controls, and risk management initiatives.

Organizational Development & Team Leadership

  • Mentor department heads and promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and collaboration.
  • Implement systems and policies that strengthen efficiency, compliance, and service delivery.
  • Lead organization-wide goal setting, performance evaluations, and staff development initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide regular updates and strategic recommendations to the CEO and Tribal Council.
  • Represent the Nation in external financial, governmental, and vendor meetings as needed.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA strongly preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in finance and administration, preferably within a tribal, governmental, or nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large budgets, multiple departments, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, ERP systems, and compliance regulations.
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel 10–25%.
