Job Description

Small Door is membership-based veterinary care designed with human standards that is better for pets, pet parents, and veterinarians alike. We designed and delivered a reimagined veterinary experience via a membership that includes exceptional care, 24/7 telemedicine, and transparent pricing - delivered with modern hospitality in spaces designed by animal experts to be stress-free. We opened our flagship location in Manhattan's West Village in 2020 and have quickly expanded across the East Coast. Small Door now operates in New York City, Boston, Washington DC, and Maryland with continued expansion plans in 2025.

We are looking for a dynamic Strategic Finance and FP&A leaderto join our growing Finance team. This role will be exposed to many moving parts of our business and will be a critical thought partner, working across the organization to drive value. You will leverage data, build models, communicate insights, and execute best practices to streamline and optimize processes for our continued growth. We have a phenomenal foundation and are now entering the next phase of growth. This role will be headquartered in NYC (hybrid - 3 days/week in office) and report to our VP of Finance.

What you'll do

  • Own and evolve our company-wide financial model, updating it monthly with actuals and adapting it as the business grows in complexity (e.g. new markets, pricing experiments, membership types, service lines)
  • Run our Budget vs. Actuals (BvA) process, collaborating closely with department leads and executives to understand key drivers, surface trends, and inform decision-making
  • Lead our Weekly and Monthly KPI reporting, tying together financial and operational performance — from member metrics to service-level margins and clinic-level performance
  • Drive our annual planning process, partnering with department leaders to build a disciplined, comprehensive financial plan aligned to our growth and margin goals
  • Help build and maintain dashboards, planning tools, reporting processes, and the operating cadence needed to support scale
  • Collaborate cross-functionally — especially with Operations — to align on priorities, optimize margins (e.g., labs, pharmacy, diagnostics), and improve financial and operational performance across clinics and services
  • Partner with Accounting to ensure clean, timely data and alignment between financial reporting and business insights
  • Support strategic decisions with ad hoc financial modeling and analysis for growth initiatives, pricing strategies, cost structure improvements, or investor needs

Who you are

  • 4+ years of experience in investment banking, FP&A or strategic finance
  • Strong modeling and analytical skills — comfortable building and working in complex Excel/Google Sheets models
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Strong communicator who can distill complex financial insights into actionable guidance for stakeholders
  • Experience working with tools like NetSuite (or similar ERP) and Looker (or another BI tool)
  • Comfortable working independently and proactively — you're not afraid to roll up your sleeves
  • Comfortable supporting board and investor materials, including scenario planning and financial performance narratives
  • Experienced in working cross-functionally, particularly with Operations, to align on priorities and improve financial and operational performance is a pus
  • Familiar with hybrid revenue models (e.g., subscription + services) and analyzing unit economics, COGS, and service-level margins is a plus
  • Prior startup, multi-site, retail, or high-growth business experience is a plus

What you'll get

  • Competitive salary
  • Equity ownership
  • Health, dental + vision insurance
  • 401K (plus 4% company match)
  • Upward mobility and growth opportunities
  • Flexible Paid Time Off, Parental Leave, and company-wide holidays
  • Monthly Health & Wellness stipend
  • Discounted veterinary care for your loved ones
  • An opportunity to make a real impact on the people around you
  • A collaborative group of people who live our core values and have your back
