The Morgan Library Museum invites applications for the position of Assistant Manager of
Adult Engagement (“Assistant Manager”). The Assistant Manager of Adult Engagement reports
to the Manager of Public Programs and creates, supports, and implements meaningful and
relevant adult learning and engagement opportunities for the Morgan’s many public audiences.
With the Manager of Public Programs and the Coordinator of Public Programs, the Assistant
Manager supports new and ongoing programs for adults. In addition to supporting the current
roster of public programming, the Assistant Manager will focus on new initiatives to further
engage adult audiences in programming aligned to the Morgan’s mission.
This position develops onsite and online programs; creates and implements hands-on learning
opportunities led by internal and external presenters, including workshops; builds and deepens
relationships with a variety of community partners and institutions; develops effective and
meaningful drop-in public tours led by docents and educators that focus on the collection and
exhibitions; writes interpretive materials for independent exploration; and considers how the
Morgan can increase access to programming for a variety of adult and college audiences through
new initiatives and programs. The Assistant Manager supports concerts through planning and
implementation of programs throughout the year with the Manager and Coordinator. The
Assistant Manager develops seasonal highlights and exhibition tours, and develops training
materials and leads sessions for docents and museum educators on new content and pedagogy.
Responsibilities:
? Work collaboratively with museum colleagues, community partners, museum educators,
artists, and performers to develop and implement a variety of programs for adult
audiences.
? Oversee docent training, scheduling, evaluation, and administrative processes.
? Work closely with the staff across the Morgan on concerts and music programming.
? Develop, manage, and lead tours and programs for adult audiences.
? Create opportunities for greater access to the Morgan for adult visitors, including Access
programming for adult audiences.
? Assess adult engagement across cultural institutions to understand local, national, and
international trends and propose strategies and programs aligned with best practices in the
field.
? Work closely with the Public Programs Coordinator to oversee administrative functions
related to programs in their areas of oversight.
? Develop and execute an evaluation strategy for adult engagement offerings to ensure
experiences are aligned to best practices in museum education and meet audience
expectations.
? Create outreach strategies to welcome new program participants, including building
programming partnerships with colleges and universities.
? Other tasks as required.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
? A four-year degree in art history, museum studies, arts administration, education; or
experience equivalent to a degree.
? A minimum of four years working in a museum setting.
? Interest in and familiarity with the landscape of adult engagement in museums, libraries,
art organizations, and cultural institutions.
? Demonstrated deep knowledge of best practices in informal learning for adult audiences,
specifically in museums. Museum programming experience required, including the
ability to lead programs for adults.
? Experience developing training materials and resources, and writing lesson plans.
? Superb written and verbal communication skills to deliver information clearly and
concisely.
? A keen understanding of administrative functions and their importance, including
developing and managing budgets, tracking and reporting revenue and expenses,
projecting attendance and managing workflow accordingly, and developing reports to
communicate relevant information.
? Excellent research skills in order to learn about a wide variety of collection objects and
exhibitions and make them accessible to various audiences.
? Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel, and Google Apps.
? Willingness and ability to work programs on evenings and weekends.
? Ability to be mobile in public spaces for several hours at a time and move objects and
materials for program preparation, set up, and breakdown.
? Core work week schedule is Tuesday through Saturday. Evenings and alternate days
may be required based on operational needs.
