The Organization

Since 2003, The Opportunity Network (OppNet) has ignited the drive, curiosity, and agency of historically and systematically underrepresented students on their paths to and through college and into thriving careers, powered by our commitment to access and community. This year, OppNet will reach more than 10,000 students of color nationwide to support them in achieving their college and career goals.

All of the work OppNet leads is in service of realizing our vision of a nation connected through vibrant communities and networks actively in pursuit of social justice and educational equity – a nation where all young people can freely create their path to enduring success that honors their passions, ambitions, and full identities.

Our Core Values

  • Galvanize Community While Celebrating the Individual

  • Maximize the Power of Storytelling

  • Center Social and Racial Equity Relentlessly

  • Activate Solutions Through Assets, Not Deficits

  • Pursue Impact That Lasts

The Job

The Coordinator, Student Services and Program Operations will support the Student Services and Program Operations (SSPO) team in developing and stabilizing its outreach, recruitment, and programmatic goals for OppNet’s strategic multi-year OppNext plan to expand the Fellows program (a 6 year College & Career Readiness program) into a borough-based model. With support from the Assistant Director of Student Services and Program Operations and the Senior Coordinator for Student Services and Program Operations, the Coordinator will focus primarily on research and outreach to prospective new partners in the NYC boroughs and integrating these partners into the Fellows Program model, particularly for recruitment and 11th grade. In addition, the Coordinator will help to actualize the partnership, providing on-site support for administration, facilitation, and operations for new partner sites. More information on the OppNext strategic plan and priorities can be found below:

As part of the OppNext strategic plan, OppNet will evolve from a direct service provider to a social change organization that does direct service, working with students, educators, employers, and institutions to create identity-affirming spaces for underrepresented people. The priorities of this plan are to:

  • Increase the accessibility of our Fellows program by having a presence in all five boroughs of New York City

  • Continue hybrid program offerings to deliver curriculum and programming best suited for virtual and in-person across and within boroughs

  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with communities through partnerships with anchor institutions

  • Establish opportunities for Fellows to engage with community organizations

  • Apply purchasing power to support local businesses

About You

The ideal candidate will personally connect to our important work and value diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) across the organization. The candidate will demonstrate an awareness of the needs and challenges high school and college-level students face from historically underserved and underrepresented communities. The candidate will demonstrate DE&I values by actively participating in all organizational-wide learning sessions and self-reflection as well as working with others to enact changes that contribute to meeting the organization’s DE&I goals. The candidate should possess outstanding professionalism and discretion, organization and attention to detail, energy and initiative, the ability to prioritize and complete a variety of tasks on time, and a willingness to work on a wide range of assignments.

The candidate should also have 3-4 years of applied experience and be someone who enjoys creating, improving, and using systems to create sustainable and consistent services that support young people in the Fellows Program.
