Position Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Finance Manager to oversee our team of Property Accountants and manage the financial operations of a personal portfolio of residential properties. This individual will play a key leadership role, ensuring financial accuracy, timely reporting, and compliance across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Oversight & Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor a team of Property Accountants, providing training, support, and performance evaluations.
- Review and approve monthly financial packages prepared by team members before submission to clients.
- Establish and maintain accounting procedures and best practices to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Portfolio Financial Management:
- Directly manage the financials for a designated portfolio of properties (co-ops, condos).
- Prepare monthly financial reports including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Review and reconcile bank accounts, general ledgers, and supporting schedules.
- Manage annual budgets, forecast cash flow needs, and monitor actual performance against budget.
- Collaborate with property managers and clients to address financial concerns, answer inquiries, and support operational decisions.
Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of year-end audit and tax documents.
- Liaise with external auditors and tax professionals as needed.
- Stay current on applicable city, state, and federal regulations impacting financial operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA is a plus.
- 5+ years of property management accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of NYC real estate financial operations, including co-ops, condos, and multifamily properties.
- Proficient in property management/accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage) and Excel.
- Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.
- Effective communicator with a client service mindset and a collaborative approach.
