Job Title: Buyer

Location: Yonkers, NY

Salary: $62,000 (Direct Hire)


Position Summary:

We are seeking a Buyer to join our Yonkers-based railcar manufacturing team. This role focuses on sourcing and procuring materials that meet production schedules, cost targets, and quality standards. The ideal candidate has a strong background in purchasing, vendor negotiation, and ERP systems (preferably SAP). This is a high-impact role supporting critical production needs and coordinating across multiple departments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Issue Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and evaluate supplier responses
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery timelines, and quality terms with vendors
  • Prepare comparison sheets to support purchasing decisions
  • Maintain vendor scorecards and support evaluation/selection processes
  • Create and maintain pricing and delivery control sheets
  • Expedite material delivery to support production schedules (KRC/KRM/KRL)
  • Coordinate FAI/PSI efforts with the QA department
  • Monitor the flow of incoming and outgoing materials
  • Issue Purchase Orders using SAP or related ERP platforms
  • Review and reconcile invoices, resolving discrepancies with receiving reports
  • Handle disposal of rejected, damaged, or shorted goods
  • Serve as point of contact between purchasing and internal departments
  • Generate reports and maintain purchasing documentation


Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in railcar or similar manufacturing

Strong communication, organizational, and negotiation skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

Experience managing sub-major vendors

Familiarity with SAP or other purchasing systems


Work Environment:

This role operates within a fast-paced manufacturing setting. The Buyer will interface daily with engineering, production, and QA teams to ensure timely and accurate procurement of materials. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential.
