Position Summary
The City Hall Older Adult Center (CHOAC) is one of the largest older adult centers in New York City. It provides nutritious meals, vital services, and engaging activities to older adults from across the city. Recognized as a model for delivering high-quality, high-volume programming that is both culturally and linguistically responsive, CHOAC holds a prominent public profile and strong community visibility.
The Kitchen Aide supports food service staff and cooks in the preparation and delivery of congregate meals, ensuring compliance with standards set by the New York City Department for the Aging (DFTA) and the Department of Health. This role is essential to maintaining safe, sanitary, and high-quality meal service for program participants. The Kitchen Aide reports directly to the Assistant Director and/or Program Director.
Responsibilities

Assist with daily food preparation, cooking, and packaging of grab-and-go meals.

Support the distribution of meals during the daily meal program and clean meal trays.

Move, pack, and store food supplies and related items.

Wash, clean, and properly chill fresh vegetables.

Clean all kitchen and dining areas, including appliances, equipment, cupboards, shelves, racks, work surfaces, cooking tools, dishes, and utensils.

Take on cooking and meal service responsibilities in the absence of a cook.

Ensure all food handling, preparation, and service comply with standards set by the NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA) and the Department of Health (DOH).

Attend staff meetings and required training sessions to stay informed and aligned with operational guidelines
Qualifications

Minimum of one year of relevant work experience required.

Must undergo a physical exam and TB test; must be free of any communicable illnesses.

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and remain standing for extended periods.

Bilingual proficiency in Chinese and English preferred; basic English reading, writing, and speaking skills required.

Basic cooking skills with a collaborative and team-oriented attitude.
Compensation: $20 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday - 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (10 hours per week)
