Schedule:

  • Week 1 (Onboarding/Training): Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

  • Ongoing Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM | Friday, 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Job Summary

The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for monitoring, diagnosing, and maintaining the operation of all plant systems and equipment. This includes but is not limited to balers, conveyor belts, gearboxes, electrical motors, pulleys, shafts, bearings, and other production equipment. The technician will troubleshoot and resolve system failures, complete necessary repairs, and ensure all equipment is operating safely and efficiently.

This role reports directly to the Plant Maintenance Manager (may vary by site). Candidates must be prepared for in-person or virtual (Teams) interviews, and resumes are required for consideration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PM) and diagnose, repair, and rebuild major equipment/components such as balers, conveyors, hydraulic power packs, motors, optical sorters, compressors, fans, pumps, forklifts, and other plant machinery.

  • Respond to equipment/system breakdowns and complete corrective actions promptly to minimize downtime.

  • Perform repairs in compliance with Waste Management Safety Rules, OSHA regulations, and site safety standards.

  • Complete and maintain DEI (Daily Equipment Inspections) backlog.

  • Inspect quality of third-party repairs and rebuilds as needed.

  • Recommend improvements to increase equipment performance, production efficiency, and product quality.

  • Assist with production schedules and advise management if work cannot be completed within standard repair times.

  • Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns and adjust to flexible scheduling, including nights or weekends, as required.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with corporate and OSHA standards.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S.

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant maintenance experience (industrial, mechanical, or electrical).

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and physical (including prior employment verification and MVR review).

  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of mechanical diagnosis and electrical systems.

  • Knowledge of single and three-phase electrical systems.

  • Knowledge of electrical control systems.

  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems (including compressors).

  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment used in equipment repair.

  • Strong troubleshooting, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Frequent pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and lifting (weight requirements vary by site).

  • Exposure to dirt, noise, odors, weather extremes, and other elements throughout the workday.

  • Regular use of hand, arm, and leg coordination and dexterity in performing tasks.
