Accounting Manager

Position Type: Full-Time | Reports to Chief Financial Officer
Job Summary:
The Accounting Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate the accounting activities of the department. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, ensuring internal controls are in place, and leading a team of accounting professionals.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manage the accounting staff responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, accounts payable, revenue processing, and bank reconciliation.
- In partnership with the CFO, recruit, select, hire, and onboard accounting and finance personnel.
- Train, coach, and mentor both new and existing accounting staff.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and implement corrective action or development plans as necessary.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain internal controls and accounting guidelines.
- Oversee the preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and ensure compliance with GAAP standards.
- Perform daily cash reconciliation and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Audit accounts for regulatory compliance and coordinate with external auditors during internal and external audits.
- Provide financial analysis focused on capital investments, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations.
- Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal financial reporting requirements.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent management, leadership, and supervisory skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities (written and verbal).
- Highly organized with strong time management skills.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to quickly learn industry-specific technology systems and tools.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management required.
- Coursework in Human Resources or Psychology is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years managing an accounting team with demonstrated success.
- At least 7 years of professional experience in a financial or accounting environment.
- Office management experience preferred.
- Previous experience in the moving, transportation, or logistics industry strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed.
- Willingness to travel to other office locations as required.
- Flexibility to occasionally work beyond standard business hours.
