JOB SUMMARY
This position provides system-wide support in identifying, evaluating, and controlling occupational health hazards to ensure Metro-North Railroad’s (MNR) compliance with federal, state and local exposure-related regulations and supports the implementation of proactive strategies that protect employee health in high-risk environments. 
Oversee hazard analysis functions, including conducting system safety reviews, identifying and resolving safety risks, and developing corrective action plans in collaboration with operating and support departments. Responsibilities also include maintaining safety policies and procedures, managing inspections and audits, and supporting the System Safety Program Plan through documentation, reporting, and employee communications.
 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul>
<li>Manage overall risk management activities including analyzing and classifying operational risks (frequency, severity, trends, etc.), reviewing trends, reporting on findings, and making recommendations to resolve problems/potential risks. Manage the review of departmental job hazard analyses. Conduct qualitative and quantitative Industrial Hygiene (IH) assessments (e.g., noise, airborne contaminants, gases, temperature, etc.). Develop and manage corrective action plans for the tracking of hazards identified as well as mitigation strategies with consideration of operational parameters and design constraints. Support Safety Assurance and Change Management processes under 49 CFR Part 270. </li>
<li>Develop, update, and manage corporate safety policies, rules, and related guidelines, including those related to hazard identification, risk assessment, use of personal protective equipment, fall protection, powered industrial truck, etc. Partner with MNR Operations Training to ensure safety training programs remain compliant with applicable regulations and rules and are updated as appropriate to reflect policies, procedures, injury trends and reduction initiatives. Manage the preparation and dissemination of safety information announcements (e.g., Alerts, Bulletins, Notices, Red Alerts, etc.) and ensure they are communicated to all employees.</li>
<li>Manage the performance of regular inspections and safety audits to ensure compliance with the overall MNR system safety program, as well as other environmental and occupational health and safety requirements. Manage specific safety programs such as the MNR personal protective equipment (PPE) program and review of products/chemicals. Maintain the MNR product/chemical review process/procedure.</li>
<li>Support annual review and revision of the System Safety Program Plan (SSPP) in accordance with all applicable requirements. Manage annual review, auditing, and revision of department-specific safety action plans. Provide technical expertise to other System Safety teams on additional tasks and topics and handle other risk reduction functions as assigned. </li>

Summary:
Facilitates patient flow through the system from scheduling through registration check in so that patients have a "one touch" registration/scheduling experience. Responsible for obtaining demographic and financial information to ensure accurate patient identification and identify and secure appropriate payment sources. Performs registration functions, insurance eligibility verification, patient liability collection, scheduling and admitting duties. Provides estimates for services when appropriate. Receives and processes patient financial liability payments. Working hours may include weekends, evenings, overnights and holidays. 
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for greeting patients and / or physicians, staff, co-workers, and guests promptly and in a professional manner. Checks patients into the system and provides direction based on appointment location, financial clearance and counseling status. Acknowledges and assists patients with special needs and respects confidentiality.
2. Responds to telephone calls according to established customer service standards. Provides requested information to callers. When assigned to scheduling, contributes to reduction of abandoned call rate, length of calls, and average speed answered through use of best practices and workflow improvements. 
3. Performs accurate search/selection of patient within the hospital system using the Patient Identification procedure to maintain the integrity of the Electronic Master Patient Index (EMPI) and to ensure the accuracy of patient identification.
4. Accurately establishes and schedules appointments for services from patients directly or physician’s offices following the designated protocols of the scheduling systems and clinical EMRs. May initiate contact to patients to obtain additional information or confirm scheduled appointments. 
5. Performs registration functions in the system and enters accurate and complete demographic and financial information to aid in securing payment for services rendered.
6. Performs insurance eligibility verification and executes payor requirements as needed. Includes initiating eligibility transactions via the Internet, contacting the payor to obtain billing information and authorization and scripts for service when appropriate.
7. Provides estimates for services when appropriate, communicates and actively solicits patient liability. 
8. Enters testing orders in the appropriate system when necessary. Requires an understanding of coding, procedural protocols, and the charge description master.
9. Employee responsible to obtain signatures for all required organization, state and federal consents and / or notifications.
10. Responsible for remaining compliant, current, and knowledgeable with Department Policies and Procedures.
11. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position including HIPAA, EMTALA and Patient Bill of Rights.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job DescriptionSUMMARY:&nbsp;Assumes responsibility for and participates in all phases of the Nursing&nbsp; Department scheduling system in order to maintain the day-to-day&nbsp; operations of the staffing office that reflects excellence in organizational and communication skills. Participates as an editor in the payroll system to&nbsp; ensure accuracy of staff time cards. RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS Responsibility I- Staffing Office Activities 1. Coordinates and reviews the ANSOS computer schedule system for each nursing unit with the&nbsp; unit master schedule, then updates the daily profile sheets for efficiency and accuracy. Updates and reports discrepancies in the schedule to the Nurse Manager of the unit and the&nbsp; Staffing office Supervisor. 1.1 Maintains and prepares daily staffing worksheets for each shift and updates for accuracy. 1.2 Prints daily worksheets, generating sheets 5 days in the future to anticipate staffing needs. 1.3 Contacts staff and Per Diem RN’s, LPN’s, NA’s and USY’s to cover vacancies, sick calls&nbsp; and vacations. Records on the staffing call log sheet, assigning to appropriate unit. 1.4 Completes accurate assigning of all staff including MOT as reflected on profile sheets and&nbsp; enters this into ANSOS System. 1.5 Tabulates census per unit per shift and enters into workload data of the ANSOS System. 1.6 Utilizes the Totals census on all units and enters on the daily worksheet for each shift. 1.7 Enters four-week time cycles of the Nursing units and addresses discrepancies with the&nbsp; Nurse Manager. 1.8 Assists Staffing Manager/Administrative Nurse Manager in placement of qualified staff to&nbsp; appropriate units. Responsibility II 2. Coordinates and updates the staffing process to reflect changes in the scheduling system. 2.1 Maintains LOA grid and updates as necessary. 2.2 Maintains and updates 1199 mandatory overtime list of nursing assistants and unit&nbsp; secretaries. 2.3 Generates biweekly process of accurate scheduling of Code Stat list and distributes to all&nbsp; nursing units. 2.4 Maintains office supplies on a regular basis to ensure adequate inventory. 2.5 Distributes payroll checks to individuals in the nursing department as necessary. 2.6 Types, files and copies as directed by the Director of Nursing Resources and&nbsp; Administrative Nurse Managers. Responsibility III- Nursing Unit Resource Support 3. Collaborates with Managers/Clinical Coordinators regarding monthly schedules. 3.1 Generates daily schedule for each nursing unit for manager to review. 3.2 Projects staffing needs for the month and week, makes calls to cover vacancies 3.3 Enters staffing and time card changes in the ANSOS system and the API system daily. Checks and edits all time clocking for accuracy on a daily basis. 3.4 Prints monthly schedules for each unit in the format requested by Nursing&nbsp; Manager/Clinical Coordinator. 3.5 Assists in the calculation and tabulation of monthly mandatory overtime and dependability&nbsp; data for each unit. Responsibility IV 4. Administers and maintains the Nursing Department ANSOS System. 4.1 Demonstrates knowledge of nursing units’ position control report to assist in assigning&nbsp; DCPOS position numbers to all new employees and interdepartmental transfers as&nbsp; requested by Director of Nursing Resources. 4.2 Assists in completing data entry of all new hires into controller module of the ANSOS&nbsp; System. 4.3 Logs and enters monthly license expiration and certification information and follow up to&nbsp; ensure all licenses and certifications are accurate. 4.4 Enters all approved annual vacations in the long-term request section for the controller&nbsp; module for all nursing staff. 4.5 Maintains status changes of nursing staff in the ANSOS System. Responsibility V 5. Maintains appropriate communication information according to department and hospital goals&nbsp; and policy. 5.1 Screens and refers all incoming telephone calls and ensures that accurate and timely&nbsp; communication is facilitated and that the department/hospital is presented in a positive&nbsp; and courteous manner. 5.2 Answers telephone in a timely and courteous manner, identifying self and department at&nbsp; all times. 5.3 Records accurate information regarding staffing schedules and enters into the scheduling&nbsp; system. 5.4 Responds promptly and accurately to staffing inquiries, and based upon personal&nbsp; knowledge routes to appropriate department/manager.
