We are seeking a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher for a Pre-K classroom (1) at the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns.
 
Our Pre-K program offers four-year-olds an exciting opportunity to access top-notch pre-kindergarten education, setting them up for future school success. We are seeking a creative, culturally aware individual with problem-solving skills to join our team. Our program emphasizes child-centered activities, building strong foundational skills in early literacy and numeracy, fostering social interactions, and preparing children for Kindergarten. If you have experience with early literacy, using multi-disciplinary approaches, and crafting strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, we would love to hear from you!
 
PAY: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour (Based on qualifications and experience)
STATUS: Part-time, non-exempt
SCHEDULE: 10 months (aligned to the district calendar)
HOURS: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 3:45 pm (TBD)
 
Responsibilities will always include but are not limited to:
<ul>
<li>Planned and implemented a developmentally appropriate program for PreK students that met UPK School District requirements.</li>
<li>Plan and teach well-developed, culturally responsive lessons.</li>
<li>Assess, track, and provide relevant and timely feedback on the achievement and developmental needs of students.</li>
<li>Use age-appropriate and positive guidance strategies to teach, encourage, and redirect inappropriate classroom behavior.</li>
<li>Build relationships with staff and families through positive and professional communication, create a welcoming environment, respect diversity, and encourage parent participation in the program.</li>
<li>Work collaboratively with teacher assistants.</li>
<li>Design the room layout for success using ECERS (Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale).</li>
<li>Developing activities that promote literacy and math concepts – following the Creative Curriculum.</li>
<li>Participating in ongoing in-service and education development opportunities and participating in the ongoing development and evaluation of the program’s goals and objectives.</li>
</ul>
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
<ul>
<li>Current NYS teaching certificate valid for service in the early childhood grades.</li>
<li>Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred).</li>
<li>Experience teaching preschool-age children.</li>
</ul>
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
To be qualified as a Pre-K teacher, a person must possess either:
<ul>
<li>(a) New York State Certification Birth-Grade 2 OR</li>
<li>(b) New York State Certification N-6 OR</li>
<li>(c) New York State Certification P, K, 1-6 OR</li>
<li>(d) Bachelor’s Degree &amp; 5-Year Plan.</li>
</ul>

<li>Warm, friendly, caring, upbeat personality. Exceptional people skills in dealing with young children, parents, and staff.</li>
<li>Professional, reliable, and prompt.</li>
<li>Must have the stamina and physical flexibility (walking, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, pulling, running, reaching, climbing, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs.) without assistance to participate in children’s activities.</li>
