Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Career Counselor to join our Workforce Development team. This role focuses on providing individualized career guidance, job readiness training, and employment support to underserved communities, including veterans, low-income individuals, and those facing barriers to employment. The Career Counselor will help participants identify career pathways, build job-search skills, and connect to sustainable employment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive intake assessments to determine clients’ skills, interests, experience, and employment barriers.

Develop individualized employment and career development plans in collaboration with each client.

Provide one-on-one counseling and group workshops on career exploration, job readiness, résumé writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies.

Facilitate referrals to vocational training programs, GED/educational services, and supportive resources as needed.

Maintain strong partnerships with local employers, training providers, veteran services, and community-based organizations.

Track client progress toward employment and provide ongoing coaching and support post-placement to ensure job retention.

Maintain accurate and timely case notes, data entry, and reporting in accordance with program and funding requirements.

Advocate for clients and work to reduce barriers to employment such as housing insecurity, mental health challenges, and legal issues.

Stay current on labor market trends and relevant workforce development policies.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

2+ years of experience in career counseling, workforce development, or human services.

Prior experience working with veterans and/or underserved populations strongly preferred.

Knowledge of trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and employment support services.

Familiarity with government assistance programs (e.g., SNAP, TANF, VA benefits) and employment law.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management databases.
