Howlett Farms is seeking an experienced Feed Mill Operator seeking growth to join our Operations Team in producing high-quality animal feed safely and efficiently at our Feed Mill in Geneva, New York. This full-time role involves operating mill equipment and heavy machinery, overseeing feed production schedules, maintaining facility equipment, and overall cleanliness. This position requires an individual who leads by example through a hands-on approach, demonstrating a strong work ethic and willingness to engage directly in tasks alongside the team. Not afraid to get their hands dirty, they earn respect by doing the work, not just directing it.

Essential Functions:
· Assist customers to ensure that incoming and outgoing grain is delivered and loaded efficiently and correctly.
· Manage truck flow and analyze inefficiencies to proactively reduce unloading/loading time.
· Operate, maintain, and repair heavy equipment (Loader) and feed manufacturing equipment by following safety protocols, executing preventive maintenance, diagnosing malfunctions, and performing all tasks necessary for efficient and safe mill operations.
· Monitor and manage ingredient inventory, including alerts for low stock levels.
· Maintain facilities to FSMA standards by following housekeeping schedules, performing groundskeeping, and completing site maintenance and other required upkeep tasks.
· Assist the team in daily mill operations and perform related duties as assigned by the General Manager.
· As needed, lead the team in daily mill operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Minimum 5 years of general work experience required; experience in agriculture or feed/grain handling is strongly preferred
· Strong hands-on, lead by example
· Experience leading small teams is strongly preferred
· Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with equipment maintenance and repairs, electrical, and related skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook and Excel) and the ability to learn new software
· Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning or inventory management software (preferred)
· Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated history of reliable, detail-oriented work.
· An ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive and encouraging attitude.
· Capability to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
· Capacity to work long hours and overtime as needed during high-production cycles.
· HS Diploma, GED or equivalent education
Physical demands:
· Ability to be on your feet and physically active throughout the work day.
· Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and labor such as sweeping, shoveling, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
· Must be comfortable with heights, climbing stairs and ladders that are 100+ feet high to maintain equipment and facilities
· Must be able to work in a noisy, dusty environment (appropriate PPE provided).
· Must be prepared to withstand exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
Pay: Overtime paid at 1.5x hourly rate over 40 hours worked/week
Level I – Entry-Level Operator: $20.00 to $23.00/hour
Experience: 0–6 months in ag operations, manufacturing, or similar field (preferred but not required)
Level II – Intermediate Operator: $23.00 to $26.00/hour
Experience: 6 months to 2 years in grain and/or feed facility operations. Experience coordinating or leading small teams.
Level III – Senior Operator / Lead: $26.00 to $29.00/hour
Experience: 2+ years in grain handling, elevator, or feed manufacturing. Demonstrated leadership amongst multi-level teams.
Expected hours and schedule:
· Monday – Friday
· Minimum of 40 hours/week in the off season with overtime requirements as needed and during peak seasons.
